Stage 2 – From S. Agostino to Piazza Funicolare and to the Point of Geno<\/h1>\n

\nHaving visited S. Agostino, cross via Torno and follow on via Coloniola in front of you. The name of this street reminds the presence of a Celtic dwelling in pre-roman times. After a restaurant-pizzeria, look on your right to the parvis of the disappeared parish church of S. Antonino Martire; in the interior of a shop, in the immediate surroundings, the remains of a roman tower can still be detected. Follow on via Coloniola until you reach via Dionigi da Parravicino, which starts on the left in direction of the lake. Take this street, and leave it immediately after a few meters, turning right in vicolo Dionigi da Parravicino. The vicolo brings you behind the restaurant \u201cVecchia Darsena\u201d. In the vicinity of the street running on the lake shore, in 1920, a public lavatory was established, to encourage local laundresses not to use the water of the lake to rinse their clothes. The restoration of the whole complex in the early Seventies has gentrified what once was a very popular borough, home to boatmen and laundresses; therefore the lavatory has almost disappeared; however a small gate, usually open (the area is private, so be very discrete), will bring you to the its remains; you can see the well and a portico. Pass under a venetian-style portico on the left and you will come out on another small square, characterised by old buildings of stone, very carefully restored. Take on your left to reach the lungolago, and then follow on the right towards the Piazza Alcide de Gasperi.
\nOn the right of the square, you will find the inferior station of the funicolare (cable car) Como-Brunate. From the square you can alternatively follow on the lake shore, or take via della Madonnetta, situated on the left of the station, to reach the Chapel of the Nosetta (uphill path on a stairway \u2013 see Stage 3<\/a>).<\/p>\n

To reach Villa Geno, instead, take the road for pedestrians on the right, passing under two arches (note the old faded sign \u201cParco comunale Regina Margherita\u201d), or cross the street to stay on the left side, right by the lake. On the right you can admire the very beautiful villas built at the beginning of the XXth century in various styles. At the end of the alley, called “Riva del Voo<\/em>“<\/strong>, you will be very close to the Point of Geno<\/strong> where, on the site of the ancient complex of S. Clemente, now stands Villa Geno, once Cornaggia Medici (restaurant). Waiting for the re-opening of the area by the lake in front of Villa Geno, that is embellished by a great fountain, at present it is recommended to follow on the asphalted street that continues on the right and quickly reaches the piazzale Felice Baratelli, close to the Darsena di Villa Geno, where you can treat yourself to a 180\u00b0 panorama on the first basin of the Lake of Como.<\/p>\n
